Things to know about London

British people drive on the left side of the road so be careful when walking around London. The UK made it easy for tourists to cross the roads without getting run over with marks on the ground that indicate which direction to look for incoming traffic. Make sure to cross the road only when the green light is on as cars usually won’t stop for you especially in a busy city like London!

If you come to London from abroad, you will have to use Great British Pounds (GBP) so make sure you exchange money at one of the exchange bureaux around the city or at the airport on your arrival. You could also use a travel money card as it is a more convenient way to avoid carrying any change during your stay. However, some of the local street markets might not accept card payments.

 

Transport

Getting to and from London is really easy as London has excellent transport links within and around the city.

A pay-as-you-go or prepaid Oyster card is a must-have while staying in London. It gives you access to most of the public transports: bus, tube (underground), tram, DLR, London Overground, TFL Rail, Emirates Air Line cable car, Thames Clippers River Bus and most National Rail services in London.

Hop on the upper deck of London’s famous double-decker buses for a quick, convenient and cheap way to visit around the city and enjoy the views as a sightseeing experience.

You can also stroll along the river banks of the Thames or rent a bike to explore the city using the protected bicycle lanes but beware of the high density of people around the main tourist attractions.
